ZOOLOGY - National workshop on “ Biological techniques”
The Dept. of Zoology organized a one day National Workshop on “ Biological Techniques” for students, Research scholars and faculty members of science discipline. The workshop began with a prayer song. Dr.S.Mary Mettilda Bai , Head of the department welcomed the gathering. Dr.Sr. Anne Perpet Sophy, Principal offered the felicitations. Dr. John Bernet Johnson, Scientist C, Rajiv Gandhi centre for Biotechnology, delivered the key note address. He highlighted on molecular and viral techniques adopted in vitro for identification of viral colonies, hybridoma technology and complement assay. Hands on training sessions was given on DNA extraction, PCR, SDS- PAGE, AGE, Semi dry blot, ELISA, Hemagglutination assay, antimicrobial activity and photomicrography . Dr. Arun Vijay and Mr. Nagasahith of Biomeitz lab, Dr. A. Punitha and her team (II M.Sc Zoology students) gave hands on training on Method of DNA extraction, agarose gel electrophoresis and SDS-PAGE. Dr. Ariharan gave hands on training on PCR technique. Dr. P. Anitha demonstrated on antimicrobial assay, Dr.s.Prakash Shoba on Semidry blot and Research scholars Ms. Nightingale Sheeba and Ms. F. Vargila on ELISA, Hemagglutination assay and photomicrography. A total of 55 participants from sri Paramakalyani College of Arts and Science, Womens Christian College, Scott Christian College, Nesamony Memorial College, Sri Ayappa College, Vivekanda College, Centre for Marine Science and Technology, S.T.Hindu College and Holy Cross College participated in the workshop. The workshop ended with a valedictory note by Dr.Ariharan and vote of thanks by Dr.S.Prakash Shoba.
