Economics - Seminar
On 27th February, 2020, one day national seminar on, “Economic Slowdown in India: Causes and Consequences” was held in the Multi – Purpose Hall. The inaugural session began with the prayer song by the department choir. Dr.S.Jeni Sanjana welcomed the gathering.
The Departmental news letter, magazine and the papers of the seminar in the form of ISBN book were released. The first copy of the department news letter was released by our Secretary, Dr.Sr.Gerardin Jeyam and received by Rev.Fr.Paulraj S.J, St.Joseph’s Institute of Management, Trichy. The first copy of magazine titled, ‘Econ – Spectrum’ was released by our Principal, Dr.Sr.Sophy and received by Dr.D.Kumar, Associate Professor of Economics, Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy. The papers of the seminar in the form of ISBN book was released by Rev.Fr.Paulraj and received by our Vice Principal, Dr.Sr.Leema Rose.
Dr.Sr. Gerardin Jeyam, our Secretary, gave felicitation. She appreciated the staff members of Department of Economics for the innovative programmes and best practices followed.
Dr.Sr.Leema Rose, our Vice Principal distributed the cash prize and certificates for the Know Your Economy test conducted by the department.
Keynote address was given by Dr.D.Kumar. He elaborated the causes of ‘Economic Slowdown in India’ and its effects on common man. He also spoke about the impact of demonetization on Indian Economy. Dr.J.M. Vinitha Charles proposed the vote of thanks.
The Technical Session – I was handled by Dr.Thaarcis Albin, Head and Associate Professor of Economics, St.Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Palayamkottai. He explained on ‘Industrial growth performance in India: Then and Now’’. He focused on the industrial growth performance before New Economic Policy and after New Economic Policy. Moreover he enriched the participants by clearly mentioning the reasons for the recent slowdown in the industrial sector and its effect on the poor people. Dr.A.Sameema welcomed the resource person and Dr.S.Vimal Dolli proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The afternoon session was assigned for paper presentation which was held at Multi Purpose Hall. Dr.O.Y. Shirley, Assistant Professor of Economics, Christian College, Trivandrum chaired the session. After the paper presentation session, Dr.O.Y. Shirley addressed the gathering and motivated the students to present and publish more number of papers. She distributed the certificates to the participants of various colleges. Forty one faculty members, thirty three scholars and one hundred and seven students participated in the seminar. 54 students from neighbouring colleges were actively participated in our Seminar. The total numbers of participants were 181 out of which 127 participants belongs to our own college. Ms.S.Panimaya Mercy proposed the vote of thanks.
