When the Bishop of Kottar Dr. Roch Agniswamy along with the then parish priest of Kurusady (1961-1971) crucially associated himself with the venture of starting the first Catholic College for Women in Kanniyakumari district, the entire universe was conspiring in his favour to materialize his dreams. The vibes of this sage bishop began to play on the heartstrings of Mother Maria Cecile. Mother Agnes, Sr. Philippa and Sr. Chrystalline joined hands with the chief architect Mother Maria Cecile and put their heart and soul into giving shape to temple of learning. They were assisted by two spinsters Ms. Mary and Ms. Clara. Many others too joined the stream. With the help of the local village head-man and the people, Rev. Fr. Anthonymuthu succeeded in his land pooling effort by securing 39 acres of land.
Initially the college could not be accessed by roads. It was surrounded by thickets and cashew groves. But no adverse circumstance could create a dent in the confidence of Mother Maria Cecile and her team who relentlessly pushed boundaries. On 22nd August 1964 the foundation stone was laid and on 2nd August 1965 Holy Cross College was declared open. The first batch in the PUC had 327 students. The rest is huge history waiting to be told to the earnest seeker.
