When the Bishop of Kottar Dr. Roch Agniswamy along with the then parish priest of Kurusady Rev.Fr. Anthony muthu (1961-1971) crucially associated himself with the venture of starting the first Catholic College for Women in Kanyakumari district, the entire universe was conspiring in his favour to materialize his dreams. The vibes of this sage bishop began to play on the heartstrings of Mother Marie Cecile, Mother Agnes, Sr. Philippa and Sr. Chrystalline joined hands with our chief architect Mother Marie Cecile and put their heart and soul into giving shape to this temple of learning. They were assisted by late Ms. Clara, who later worked in the department of Botany . On 22nd August 1964 the foundation stone was laid. On 2nd August 1965 Holy Cross College was declared open by the then collector Shri. P.B. Krishnaswamy. Fr. Melard (Belgian Missionary) was the first Chaplain.
The three sections of pre- university course housed a total strength of 327 students from within the state and the neighboring state Kerala. The rest is huge history waiting to be told to the earnest seeker. We salute our pioneers and always remember them with gratitude!
