INTRODUCTION
The Department of
Economics is as old as the college itself. Established as an undergraduate
department in 1967, it developed into a postgraduate department in 2003 and has
now attained the status of a Research Centre. Over the past decades, the
department has produced numerous University Rank Holders. The interdisciplinary
postgraduate programme, M.A. Business Economics (Self-Financing), was
introduced in 2003 and was later renamed M.A. Economics in 2016. The department
is committed to the academic and holistic development of its students through
various curricular, co-curricular, and extension activities. In commemoration
of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the department
organizes the “Spare and Share” Food Distribution Programme, which is one of
the distinctive social outreach initiatives of the department.

Greetings
from the Department of Economics,
The Department of Economics is committed to empowering students with knowledge, skills, and confidence to understand the changing economic world and shape a better future. With a dedicated and enthusiastic team of faculty, the department focuses on the holistic development of learners by nurturing their academic, analytical, entrepreneurial, leadership, and research abilities. Through seminars, guest lectures, workshops, conferences, paper presentations, quizzes, and intercollegiate and interdepartmental competitions, the department provides students with opportunities to explore economic concepts beyond the classroom and develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The department also encourages digital learning, research activities, community engagement, and skill development, enabling students to connect economic theories with contemporary social and economic issues. With the grace of the Almighty and the continuous commitment of the faculty, the Department of Economics strives to create a supportive, inclusive, intellectually stimulating, and competitive environment where students are encouraged to discover their potential and emerge as responsible, confident, and economically aware citizens.
Thanks and Regards,
