INTRODUCTION
One
among the early departments, Department of English has charted intense growth
and immense spurts of energy. Within 6 years of its inception in1966, it
established itself as a postgraduate department. Beginning in 1972 the PG
programme has won a number of laurels thus securing input in the form of PG
Development Fund. Further the department evolved as a research department in
the year 2008 initiating the M.Phil degree followed closely by the Doctoral
Degree in 2009. The staggering number of applicants per year necessitated
parallel programmes of both Undergraduate (2010) and Postgraduate (2014)
levels. Such growth trajectory was augmented by the stalwarts of teaching
faculty, libraries at the college, department and research centre sections,
excellent infrastructure, optimally cutting edge audio visual support and so
on. Since the gaining of autonomy the Department has been strongly involved in
the curricular design which has always been student centred. For instance, the
Certificate of Proficiency Journalism and Mass Communication, UGC sponsored,
has benefited hundreds of students so much so that it further branched into a
Diploma Course in 2011, and an Advanced Diploma Course in 2012 which were
offered till 2017-18. Besides equipping students for employability, the
syllabus also ascertains instilling value system, eco spiritual dimensions, inclusivity
thus developing a holistic personality.
