YOUTH RED CROSS (YRC)



INTRODUCTION 

The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross Society Act and incorporated under the Parliament Act XV of 1920 (as Amended by Act No. 22 of 1956 and the Adaptation of Laws (No 4) order of 1957 and the Act. No. 14 of 1992). It is a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and is recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, namely: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality the Indian Red Cross Society acts as an auxiliary to the state in the carrying out of humanitarian activities. It also provides a range of services, including disaster relief, health and social welfare programmes in the country. During wartime, the society works as auxiliary to the armed forces medical services and also assists the affected civilian as per the Geneva Conventions.

Youth Red Cross (YRC) is one of the wings of Indian Red Cross Society.

Young volunteers of our Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Nagercoil make a significant contribution to the needs of the most vulnerable people of the society through the Youth Red Cross Club. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities, not only as workers and also as beneficiaries.

INTRODUCTION

         Rotaract club is a service, leadership and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18–30. The Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Our college aims at the total development of students through enlightenment programmes and various social activities.

        The Rotaract Club was started in our college in the year 1980.  The purpose of our Rotaract club is to provide an opportunity for young women to enhance the knowledge and leadership skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service. Clubs generally charge a small annual membership fee to cover the expenses. Retractors have a passion for selfless service.

QUIZ CLUB







INTRODUCTION

The Quiz Club of our college was established in the year 1985 to encourage and motivate young brains to have a quest for knowledge. The seed for organizing CROSSINGS the first ever inter-collegiate quiz competition of our college was sown in 1985 which being the International Year of Youth. Initially the club was conducting CROSSINGS with our own college teachers and later, from 1993 onwards, it was conducted for college students in collaboration with SIOL QUIZ CLUB, Pondicherry. From the year 2015-16 onwards the club started conducting inter-school Quiz too. An ever-rolling trophy is awarded to the winners along with the cash prizes to motivate the students. In order to nurture the general knowledge skills among our own students, the best competitor award is given every year for the students who wins in the maximum number of quiz competitions conducted in other colleges.

INTRODUCTION

The Anti-Ragging Committee is established to create a safe and supportive environment for all students within the educational institution. Ragging, which refers to any form of harassment or bullying, undermines the core values of education and personal development. This committee is dedicated to preventing ragging, addressing any incidents that arise, and promoting a culture of respect and inclusion.


AIM

The primary aim of the Anti-Ragging Committee is to eradicate ragging in all forms and ensure a conducive learning environment for all students, fostering mutual respect and understanding among peers.


VISION

To cultivate an educational atmosphere that is free from ragging, where every student feels safe, respected, and empowered to thrive academically and socially.

Our mission is to actively promote awareness about the detrimental effects of ragging, implement strict measures against offenders, and provide support systems for victims. We strive to educate the student community about the importance of compassion, camaraderie, and a healthy campus culture.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive growth in rural areas. Launched in 2014, UBA seeks to engage higher educational institutions in the holistic development of villages by leveraging their resources, research, and expertise. The program encourages institutions to collaborate with local communities to identify challenges and implement innovative solutions for rural development.

The primary aim of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to transform rural India by fostering the development of sustainable practices, improving the quality of life, and enhancing the livelihood opportunities of the rural population. By involving students and faculty in community engagement and research, UBA aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural development and empower local communities through education and technology.

INTRODUCTION

A harmonious  relationship between the teachers and the parents of the students is vital to the holistic development of the students and the college.  With this in view, the Parent - Teacher Association (PTA) was started at Holy Cross College (Autonomous) Nagercoil in 1994. All the parents and the teachers are the members of the Association. The executive Committee consists of the principal as the patron and two parents as elected members (one as President and the other as Vice President), a Treasurer and the executive members, comprising staff and parents. The election of the office bearers is conducted once in every three years.
