INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physics was established in 1966 with the introduction of the B.Sc. programme, aimed at nurturing young and aspiring physicists. Recognizing the growing interest in Physics among academically talented students, the M.Sc. programme was subsequently introduced in 1984. Over the years, under the guidance of dedicated and visionary leaders, the department has grown significantly and expanded its academic offerings. The M.Phil. programme was introduced in 2009, followed by the Ph.D. programme in 2010.

       The department continues to promote academic excellence through quality teaching and research. Its major research areas include theoretical and computational physics, crystal growth, nanophysics, thin films, and polymers.

OBJECTIVES

After the completion of the Physics Course, our students will be able to

ü    To provide quality academic programmes in theoretical and practical Physics.

ü  To enable students to read, understand, and interpret physical information in verbal, mathematical, and graphical forms.

ü  To equip students with appropriate methodologies related to Physics.

ü   To impart the skills required to gather, analyse, and effectively utilise information from various resources.

ü  To provide need-based education in Physics of the highest quality at the undergraduate level.
