TheNational Academic Depository (NAD) and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) are initiatives aimed at digitizing and streamlining the storage, management, and verification of academic records for students. NAD is an online storehouse that securely holds all academic awards such as certificates, diplomas, degrees, and mark-sheets. It allows academic institutions to digitize and store student records, ensuring easy access, retrieval, and authentication. ABC is a digital platform that allows students to accumulate and transfer credits between higher education institutions (HEIs). It allows academic institutions to lodge and to maintain the integrity, the authenticity and the confidentiality of credits earned by each student. ABC ensures easy credit transfer and faster credit recognition through digital mode.
To register with NAD and to upload the student’s academic records, the Academic Institutions (AI) must create an institutional account by providing the necessary information and upload the academic awards of the students in a digitized format. Under the ABC scheme, students must create a 12-digit ABC ID to track their academic credits across platforms and services. The ABC ID is linked to their Aadhaar and supports academic mobility and credit transfer between higher education institutions. As per UGC norms, having an ABC ID is mandatory for students pursuing higher education in India. The ABC ID is essential for:
♦ and accumulating academic credits from multiple institutions.
♦ Enabling credit transfers between institutions..
♦ Supporting the credit-based academic system in line with the National Education Policy (NEP).
